Cadillac Escalade to move upmarket, remain body-on-frame

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has revealed some new details about the next-generation Escalade.

Talking to The Detroit News, de Nysschen said the model "must become more sophisticated and technically advanced." Despite admitting the model needs to be improved, the executive ruled out a switch to unibody construction as de Nysschen noted, “We can do all that with a body-on-frame architecture.”

The executive declined to go into specifics but the current model has been a huge success for the company and executives have previously hinted at plans for a VSport variant and an ultra-luxury model that costs more than an estimated $ 135,000 CAD.

There's no word on when the new variants could be introduced but today's buyers aren't missing out on much as the Escalade comes nicely equipped with a heated wood / leather steering wheel, leather seats, and American Walnut, Natural Finish Elm, or Santos Palisander wood trim. The SUV also boasts ambient interior lighting, a CUE infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch (31.2 centimetre) digital instrument cluster.

Power is provided by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that develops 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is connected to an automatic transmission which enables the Escalade to accelerate from 0-100 kilometres per hour (0-62 MPH) in less than six seconds.
