2017 Chevy Sonic facelift unveiled in New York

Chevrolet is looking to spark some interest in the Sonic by unveiling the facelifted model at the New York Auto Show.

Set to go on sale this fall, the 2017 Sonic has a Spark-inspired front fascia with a revised grille, restyled headlights, and a large lower air intake that has a black plastic insert. The car has also been equipped with a new hood, an updated rear bumper, and restyled wheels.

The interior largely carries over but designers installed a more traditional instrument cluster and an upgraded MyLink infotainment system that has a seven-inch display as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Customers can also order several new options including a power driver's seat, a heated steering wheel, and Rear Park Assist.

Buyers looking for a sportier appearance can order the Sonic RS which comes equipped with a flat-bottomed steering wheel, piano black trim, and "RS" branded floor mats. This particular variant can also be equipped with new red cloth seats.

Chevrolet was tight-lipped on performance specifications but the automaker confirmed plans to offer two different engines including a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder that produces 138 horsepower.
