When Cadillac introduced the CT6 last year, its most powerful engine was a biturbo 3.0-litre V6 with 404 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. That's nothing to sneeze at but it didn't appease fans who were used to seeing a V8 engine under the hood.
That's about to change as Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen has confirmed plans for an all-new V8 engine. The engine will be an entirely new biturbo 4.2-litre V8 and de Nysschen told Car & Driver it will have an output in the "upper 400s."
Despite packing nearly as much power as the previous STS-V, the V8-powered CT6 will likely eschew the V Series badging. Instead, the engine could be reserved for the pricey CT6 Platinum which starts at $ 87,465 CAD when equipped with the mid-range 3.6-litre V6 that develops 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque.
There's no word on when the engine will be introduced but it will likely be shared with the company's flagship sedan that will be launched by the end of the decade. Expected to wear either the CT8 or CT9 moniker, the model will go head-to-head with long-wheelbase versions of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S Class.
