Aston Martin's new hypercar set for July 5 reveal

We thought that Aston Martin's new, shrouded-in-mystery hypercar would make its global debut this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but it turns out that the British brand has a more private location and a more privileged audience in mind instead.

The hypercar, a joint venture between Aston Martin and its Red Bull racing team, will instead be unveiled at the automaker's headquarters in Gaydon, in Central England, on July 5.

A handful of especially well-heeled potential customers were shown the new hypercar on the sidelines of the Monaco Grand Prix a few weeks ago, but virtually no information has been made public about what those special viewers got to see.

Not much is known about the hypercar, which is expected to have a price tag as high as £2.5 million, or about $ 3.5 million at today's admittedly fluctuating exchange rates. The car is best known right now by its code name, AM-RB 001, but we do anticipate that it will have a V-12 engine plucked from the company's new DB11. A track version and a road-going version are expected, with deliveries at least a year and a half out. Fewer than 100 are expected to be built. We'll find out soon if we are right.
