Best of 2016 Geneva Motor Show

Autoshows are a wonderful source of new and exciting additions to the automotive world all collected in one place, at one time. If you happen to visit a show on media days like we do, you also get the chance to touch, feel and sometime even hear a monster motor turn over and rev a few times.

While covering the 86th Geneva Motor Show this year, our team got up close and personal with plenty of exciting new unveils, here are the ones we liked the best.

Aston Martin DB11

The British automaker chose Geneva to make it's world premiere of the DB11. The new car is powered by a 5.2 litre V12 rated for 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 100 kilometres per hour? 3.9 seconds. The DB11 takes the place of the aging DB9, and we couldn't be happier with this longer, lower, wider replacement. Actually, the DB10 would be nice, but seeing as it was created exclusively for 007 in the latest Bond film, I'll settle for this.

Ferrari GT4 Lusso

Remember the hatchback, ahem, shooting brake Ferrari? Yea, the FF. Well, it's being replaced by the far better looking GT4 Lusso. We've got 680 hp, 515 lb-ft of torque from a 6.5-litre V12. It also supports Apple CarPlay, but with a Ferrari V12 under the hood, who cares about the infotainment system.

Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa premiered the full Giulia lineup in Geneva. I'm particularly fond of the 505 hp, 443 lb-ft of torque Quadrifoglio model, but for those looking for the tamer sedan, there's a 150 hp, 2.2-litre diesel motor and a 200 hp, turbocharged 2.0-litre unit as well. With the whole Fiat Chrysler amalgam, expect some version of the Giulia to reach Canada in the coming year.

Lamborghini Centenario

I don't completely understand what's going on with those vertical rear fins on this very special edition Lamborghini, but it doesn't matter. The Centenario exists to comemorate company founder, the late Ferruccio Lamborghini's 100th birthday. Zero to 100 in 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h, this is one spectacular birthday gift. There'll be 40 of these made, each ringing in at about $ 2.41 million.

Honda Civic Hatchback

As exciting as all the high horsepower, massive top speed cars are, the most impressive numbers are sales figures. Honda's sold more than 35 million Civics globally since the first one in 1973. And for the past decade, the Civic hatch has been notably absent in the North American market. So huzzah for 2017, for its when we expect the mighty Civic hatch will return to Canada. Abarth 124 Spider

So we've all seen the Fiat 124 and how awesome that is. Here's what happens when you take that lovable roadster and give it some Abarth madness. The model pictured is the Abarth 124 Spider Rally edition powered by a 300 hp 1.8 litre motor mated to a race-spec sequential six-speed manual transmission. The car's been built to meet FIA's Rally-GT class so don't expect it in the dealer showroom anytime soon.

Apollo N

The rather massive presence the Apollo N has belies its hyper-light nature. Weighing in at just 1,200 kilograms and capable of 700 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque, the Apollo N manages the zero to 100 km/h run in 3 seconds. The company also claims it's centre of gravity is "unbeatably low" making it one amazing machine around a track. It's particularly nice to see that the German auto marque's new Chinese owners have renamed it Apollo. Because it used to be Gumpert, and this would've been the new Gumpert Apollo N. Yea, doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it?
