Do you remember SUV concept that Lamborghini unveiled back in 2012 at Beijing Auto Show? Well, if you do and if you liked it good news is that it got a green light and we’ll see him soon enough rolling off the assembly line. Before anything else let’s get back to last SUV produced by Lamborghini LM002. Well it wasn’t successful, in a span of seven years (1986–1993) only 328 were produced. The main reason that LM002 failed lies in fact that wasn’t recognizable as Lamborghini, it really looked like a Humvee. But that was a long time ago and Lamborghini came a long way, so we have high hopes for new 2017 Lamborghini Urus.

2017 Lamborghini Urus – Name

Urus, yea, what in a world is that? Ok, strange name and before we go to its design, we’ll tell you what was inspiration for that name. We all know what kind of animal this Italian manufacturer has on its emblem. So for the new SUV they picked aurochs. It’s ancestor of domestic cattle, a large wild cattle that’s now extinct, last one died in Poland in 1627. Ok, now let’s get to the point and first thing on the list is design of 2017 Lamborghini Urus.

2017 Lamborghini Urus – Design

When you first look at it it’s just screaming “Lamborghini”. Unlike that LM002 this SUV has all the details that every car with a raging bull emblem has, but on a much greater scale. We can see that key design is taken from Aventador and that certainly is not a bad thing. Mostly notable are large air intakes on both sides; while above them are slightly smaller headlights with LED bulbs. Recognizable “Y” shape is seen inside the front lightning unit.

Roof is one thing that really stands out the 2017 Lamborghini from the rest of the crowd. It’s really beautiful as it sweeps downward to reach humble spoiler. Rear end with sexy looking tail lights is just outstanding and that not all, answer this. How can you indentify a Lamborghini without even seeing it? So according to his words, besides aluminum there will be use of plenty of carbon-fiber to reduce weight as much as possible making it the lighter than its competitors. That will certainly have impact on overall performance of 2017 Lamborghini Urus. We will reveal one more thing that R&D chief said in the powertrain section. But now let’s talk about interior.

2017 Lamborghini Urus – Interior

One thing that new SUV will have completely different from its competitors that is unusual for this type of vehicle is number of occupants. But reason behind that 2017 Lamborghini Urus only has four seats lies in the fact that those four will have highest possible level of comfort. Driver seat is usually the most comfortable one, but in Urus every passenger will feel like he has space of his own. Not only on the exterior is made mostly from carbon-fiber, it’s heavily used in the making of the interior.

On the concept only thing behind steering wheel are the paddle shifters. All else is controlled with multi-functioned steering wheel. But that won’t be the case with production model, since laws don’t allow this type of function for headlights, turn signals and so on. Off course don’t expect every other detail on concept to make it into production, but we are pretty sure that interior of 2017 Lamborghini Urus will be on the highest level possible. And now the section that is probably the most anticipated one.

2017 Lamborghini Urus – Drivetrain Options

Most of Lamborghini models are power by naturally aspirated V10 and V12 that will not be the case for this SUV. So what engine will be used for this beautiful vehicle? It was confirmed by Maurizio Reggiani that Urus will have 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, that is completely engineered for 2017 Lamborghini Urus. Although he didn’t want to talk about output values, but he gave a hint that it will be the most powerful in its class.

Since the Bentley Bentayga is currently the most powerful SUV in the market with 600 horsepower we can assume that Urus will end up more than 610-horsepowered Huracan. Well there are other rumors that say that you will have 584 horsepower at your disposal. Now to reveal what he also sad; new Urus will have 0-60 mph time is under four seconds. If you think that’s all, it’s not.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that new SUV is being engineered to accept electric motors and a battery pack. So in other words we might also have a Plug-in Hybrid version available.

2017 Lamborghini Urus – Price

And now for the price. Although it’s still early to talk about this topic, there are reports that 2017 Lamborghini Urus will have a start price tag around $ 270.000. If there is starting price, what’s with more pricing options? We forgot to mention that Italians are considering one more option besides standard and hybrid. There is a possibility to include SuperVeloce (SV) model with enhanced output and some other things. Just for this model power could go to 700 horsepower. That would go fast.
